About Us

Brooks Trail Running Shoes

Performance. Excellence. Individuality.

We know why you run.
We are runners ourselves.
We understand your desire, your drive to rise above.
We know what you expect in the running products
you depend on.
We depend on the same products ourselves.

In 2003, lifetime runner and avid marathoner Jim Micheels opened Raleigh Running Outfitters with his wife, Carolyn. Their intent was to introduce the performance running products they loved and depended on to runners in the growing Triangle area,
to present them to fellow athletes with a level of customer service, connection, and camaraderie that had been formerly unknown.
Today, Raleigh Running Outfitters still strives to serve as a retailer to which all runners can go for honest, expert advice on product performance, training and racing, injury avoidance, and athletic excellence.

We pride ourselves in our ability to outfit you completely for any run, whether it's a long training run on a hot, summer day or a chilly, hilly race event in the mountains. If you're looking for the most advanced GPS system designed for runners or a lightweight hydration system to keep you going, we can show you what's available and tell you how well each product works, from firsthand experience.

Gait Analysis VideoAnd running shoes? That's our primary language. With more than 60 different styles of racing and training shoes from all the major manufacturers, we're versed in shoes. We carry only the performance models that are best for running, and our staff personally tests and evaluates them in order to provide meaningful advisement when you're selecting shoes. Plus, we use technologically advanced Video Gait Analysis to make specific recommendations for any correction your shoe should provide. Using high-speed video and slow motion/still imaging, our staff is trained to analyze your stride, ankle motion, and foot strike to measure your degree of pronation. Then, as you test different shoes on our treadmill, we help you select the best shoe for your biomechanical needs.

Running is no longer an individual sport. Finally, the support and service you deserve.

Sales associate BD Sechler joined Raleigh Running in 2010 and now works exclusively out of our Cary store.
BD has nearly 20 years experience in the human resources field. His retail experience includes 6 years with a Michigan ski shop. A runner in middle school, BD found running again in 2005, the year he ran his first marathon. He quickly moved to ultramarathoning. Since conquering the Umstead 100-Mile Endurance Run in 2009 and in 2010, BD has set his sights on the ultrachallenging Western States 100.

Sales associate and avid runner Sandra Christine also joined the staff in 2010. A native of Scotland, she got her start playing high school field hockey and was selected to try out for the Scottish Junior National team. Now a Raleigh resident, she turned her attention to running 10 years ago and quickly got hooked on long-distance events. Her favorite race event was the Umstead 50-Mile Endurance Run, which she completed in 2011. She also enjoys helping other runners find success as a USATF- and RRCA-certified running coach.

One of Raleigh Running's very first customers, Leslie Homes joined the Raleigh Running sales team in 2010. She brought with her 10 years of sales/merchandising experience as well as nine years of experience with Wake County Public Schools. She has been running marathons (her favorite distance) and half marathons for 11 years, and so far, has completed a total of nine marathons. She is a USATF- and RRCA-certified running coach whose love of running carries over to her love for helping others reach their athletic goals.

Meghan Hegarty is working on her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at N.C. State University, researching improvements in compression stockings. She is a part-time sales associate at Raleigh Running and a passionate member of the RRO/FastCoaching racing team. Meghan got her start in running in high school and continued at the University of Hartford where she emerged as a strong middle-distance runner and triple jumper. She now races 10Ks, half marathons and marathons and maintains the FastCoaching Academy running blog.

For Anthony Greco, competitive running is only one of his wide-ranging interests. A part-time sales associate at Raleigh Running, Anthony's background includes retail and customer service, as well as TV news, journalism and politics. He currently serves on the legislative staff of Rep. Dale Folwell (General Assembly, Forsyth County). A runner all his life, Anthony committed to competitive running in 2009 and hasn't looked back. His recent PR for the half marathon (his favorite distance) is 1:21.31.
